| 11/12 | Demo of Buildings Begins – demo will begin with the Makena wing (south end), move to the Makai Wing (west side), then the Kihei wing (north side, approx. 11/26) and finish with the central building. 1) the buildings will be "chewed apart" piece by piece to reduce noise and environmental issues. The "claw" has water controls to minimize dust at the point of contact and a separate boom with a fire hose operator will be used to further reduce the possibility of dust. 2) The materials will not be dropped to eliminate the noise of concrete falling to earth and for safety reasons. 3) All metals (rebar, aluminum windows) will be separated from the concrete and sent to Oahu recycler. 4) Remaining concrete pieces will be crushed on-site to be used as fill.. The operation is not the same as rock crushing and uses water on both ends of machine to reduce dust. This process eliminates the need to truck off site, crush and truck back on to the site, therefore reducing total truck loads in Wailea. |
| 11/29 | Mass Excavation begins 1) Approximately 150,000 cu. yds. of material to be moved. 2) Estimated up to 75 truck loads per day possible at times. 3) Blasting will be up to twice a day |
